For a village
experience in the spectacular Dogon country of southern
Mali we welcome you to "Campement Le Vieux Baobab"
(the old Baobab). We opened
in July 2004 with the help of the Fattoria
Bassetto in Certaldo (Italy). We can provide you
with both comfortable settings and excellent opportunities
to explore the region.

80 km from the closest airport in Mopti (direct flights with
Point Afrique at

At
the Mopti bus terminal you can find buses and taxi
brousse for Bandiagara and Sangha.

five-day Fête des Masques where masks are used in ritual
ceremonies.
Our Region
The
Dogon homeland is near the Falaise de Bandaigara or
Bandiagara Escarpment, a
200km stretch of cliff that sticks up in the desert. We
have a complex and elaborate culture and are well known
for our art work. The treks are a great way to get a
first hand look at the pink sandstone houses and
granaries carved out of the cliff face, and to gather
tips on gardening in very small spaces. The Dogon grow
their crops in small plots on the cliff ledges.
